We are thrilled to have been shortlisted in the North East England Tourism Awards – as a finalist in the Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Award category.
The prestigious awards will be held next March by organisers, the NewcastleGateshead Initiative.
We were shortlisted by demonstrating all the different ways we operate in an ethical, responsible and sustainable way.
From electric vehicle charging points and green energy suppliers, to solar panels which have generated enough energy to boil a kettle 7,179,364 times, we had plenty to shout about.
We provided information on the extensive and ongoing development of our Parkland with native trees, wildlife trails as well as our ever-growing partnership with not-for-profit community interest company, Climate Action North, when we co-hosted our first ever fully sustainable event at Dalton Park – EcoFest back in February 2022.
We also talked about how we transformed an under-used space into a Pollinator Parks® to support and care for wildlife and repair broken ecosystems using small-scale rewilding methods.
One of our latest initiatives, our new approach to celebrating Christmas by sourcing sustainable displays, was outlined and we were proud to show how our staff support the local community with litter picks and beach cleans.
Looking to the future we have lots more ethical, responsible and sustainable projects in the pipeline. More trees are planned to be planted in the Parkland, we’re looking to enhance the Pollinator Park® with new seating, and much more!
EcoFest will return in 2023, a strategy for enhanced segregation of our cafés and restaurants food waste is underway and we’re looking for a new local charity to support during 2023.

practices and our team is dedicated to doing everything they can to make a positive impact on the environment and in our local community.
The judging for the awards starts in early 2023 and we’re doing all we can to take the crown for an award category which demonstrates our commitment to being an outlet shopping destination with a conscience.
